School of Rock Auditions

Auditions for School of Rock & The Addams will take place at the same time. Those interested in auditioning for both productions will only need to complete one audition.

Youth Onstage Band Audition Times

Wednesday, March 27 @ 6:30PM

General Audition Times

Saturday, April 20 @ 1PM – Youth Actors
Sunday, April 21 @ 6PM – Adult Actors
Monday, April 22 @ 7PM – Adult Actors

Callbacks, if needed, will take place in the evening on Wednesday, April 24.

Performers should plan to arrive at the start of the audition time. Please contact casting@thegrandoperahouse.com if you cannot be there at the top of the audition time.

Actors will be notified if they are needed for callbacks. If you are not called back, it does not mean you are not being considered for a role.

Location:

Auditions will be held at the Grand’s Rehearsal space in the Arcade Building, 880 Locust St., Suites 222 and 228.  Please enter through the Locust Street entrance.  When you enter, take the stairs on the right to the second floor. The rooms are right at the top of the stairs. 

Performances

June 14, 15, 20, 21 & 22 @ 7:30PM
June 16 & 23 @ 2:00PM

This production is open to youth and adult actors, ages 10 and above.

Full Company rehearsals will begin tentatively May 6. Rehearsals will typically run between 6-9PM Mon – Fri, with the possibility of some weekend rehearsals. (The directing team will make every attempt to schedule the youth actors in the first half of rehearsal, especially when school is still in session. This will change once we get to tech runs and performances.)

Dress/Technical/Brush-Up Rehearsals are June 10-13 and 19. Availability for dress/technical rehearsals and all performances is mandatory.

Detailed Rehearsal schedules will be made available upon the completion of casting.

Youth Onstage Band Students (Zack, Freddie, Katie, and Lawrence) AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: (Ages 10 -14)

  • Digital audition form. Fill this out prior to your arrival by clicking the button below to save time at auditions. Those auditioning should be prepared to list all conflicts or potential conflicts that overlap with a production’s rehearsal and performance schedule.
  • Come dressed to move as the audition will start with a short movement/dance call.
  • Prepare a 1 min cut (approximately 32 bars) of a musical theater song or any song you feel confident and comfortable singing. Feel free to bring sheet music in the correct key if you would like an accompanist to play along with you, although not required.
  • Also prepare the musical cut for your specific character. Contact casting@thegrandoperahouse.com prior to the auditions to receive the musical cut. Actors auditioning for the roles of Katie and Zack please bring your instrument with you, we will provide an amp. There will be a keyboard and drum set provided for those interested in auditioning for Freddie and Lawrence.

Those wishing to audition for both The Addams Family and School of Rock only need to complete one audition form.
  • Youth Actors (Ages 10-14): Come dressed to move as the audition will start with a short movement/dance call. Prepare a 1 min cut (approximately 32 bars) of a musical theater song or any song you feel confident and comfortable singing. Feel free to bring sheet music in the correct key if you would like an accompanist to play along with you, although not required.
  • Adult Actors (Ages 15-Above): Come dressed to move as the audition will start with a short movement/dance call. Prepare a 1 min cut (approximately 32 bars) of a musical theater song in the style of either show. Please bring sheet music in the correct key; an accompanist will be provided.
    • Those interested in auditioning for Dewey Finn will also need to complete an instrumental (guitar) audition. Please contact casting@thegrandoperahouse.com prior to auditions to receive the musical cut. Please bring your guitar with you to auditions and we will provide an amp.

Alternate Audition and Video Submissions:
Actors unable to attend auditions may submit an audition video to casting@thegrandoperahouse.com.  Video submissions should contain 32 bars of a musical theater song in the style of the show showcasing range and a 1-minute comedic or dramatic monologue. Adding a dance section to your audition tape is optional. Video submissions must be received no later than 6pm Monday, April 22.

CASTING INFORMATION:

The creative team seeks a diverse company of youth and adult actors, ages 10-above. Actors of all ethnicities will be equally considered for all roles and actors of color are encouraged to audition. All roles are open.

Dewey Finn (tenor, male-identified, any ethnicity) – A wannabe rock star with big dreams, Dewey finds himself in urgent need of some cash after getting kicked out of his band. He impersonates a teacher to land a job at the prestigious Horace Green prep school, where he turns his class of straight-A students into a rock group and enters them in the Battle of the Bands.  Must play guitar.

Rosalie Mullins (soprano, female-identified, any ethnicity) – Proper and a bit uptight, Rosalie is the headmistress of Horace Green School. She has a secret love of rock music and yearns to recapture the carefree spirit of her youth.

Ned Schneebly (baritone, female-identified, any ethnicity) – Ned is an old friend of Dewey’s, and the two currently share a flat with Ned’s girlfriend Patti. He used to play in Dewey’s band, but is now a substitute teacher – who Dewey impersonates to get the Job at Horace Green. Ned is still passionate about his music but tends to let his bossy girlfriend Patti tell him what to do.

Patty DiMarco (mezzo-soprano, female-identified, any ethnicity) – Ned’s domineering girlfriend, who lives with Ned and Dewey. She calls the shots in their relationship and isn’t too happy about Dewey’s presence in their flat – or his influence on Ned.

Student Onstage Band
Zack Mooneyham (tenor, male-identified, any ethnicity) – is the bands lead guitarist and a talented songwriter He desperately wants to impress his father, who’s usually too busy with work to take an interest in his family. Must play guitar.

Freddie Hamilton (tenor, male-identified, any ethnicity) – Freddie loves a bit of rowdiness and noise, making him a great drummer His own father doesn’t see his ability, constantly belittling his son. Must play drum set.

Katie (alto, female-identified, any ethnicity) – Quiet and serious, Katie already played the cello, but switched to bass at Dewey’s suggestion to fill out the band. Must play bass.

Lawrence (tenor, male-identified, any ethnicity) – Awkward and lacking in confidence, Lawrence is hesitant to attempt something “cool”. like joining a band, but he soon turns out to be a fantastic keyboardist. Must play piano/keyboard.

Students
Summer Hathaway (alto, female-identified, any ethnicity) – Confident and outspoken, Summer is the ideal manager for the band. Ambitious and very clever, she hopes that winning Battle of the Bands will look good on her college application.

Tomika (mezzo-soprano, female-identified, any ethnicity) – New girl Tomika is struggling to fit in at Horace Green. She conquers her shyness to reveal her phenomenal singing ability and becomes a lead vocalist alongside Dewey in the band.

Marcy (mezzo-soprano, female-identified, any ethnicity) – Quiet girl with angelic voice, is the band’s backup singer and dancer.

Shonelle (mezzo-soprano, female-identified, any ethnicity) – Quiet girl with angelic voice, is the band’s backup singer and dancer.

Billy Sandford (tenor, male-identified, any ethnicity) – Flamboyant and artistic, Billy has a passionate interest in fashion, even though his father wants him to be a footballer like the other men in his family. He designs the band’s costumes.

Mason Ward (tenor, male-identified, any ethnicity) – is a total whiz with technology and creates special effects and fantastic lighting designs for the band’s performances using his laptop.

James (tenor, male-identified) – is tough and reliable, making him a good security guard for the band Mostly, he keeps an out for anyone coming while the band are secretly rehearsing!

Sophie (alto, female-identified, any ethnicity) – the band’s roadie, but also serves as a backup dancer during performances. 

Madison (alto, female-identified, any ethnicity) – the band’s roadie, but also serves as a backup dancer during performances.
