Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Auditions
AUDITION INFORMATION

Callbacks, if needed, will take place in the evening on Wednesday, October 7.
Performers should plan to arrive at the start of the audition time. Please contact casting@thegrandoperahouse.com if you cannot be there at the top of the audition time.
Actors will be notified if they are needed for callbacks. If you are not called back, it does not mean you are not being considered for a role.
Location:
Auditions will be held at The Grand’s Rehearsal space in the Arcade Building, 880 Locust St., Suites 222 and 228. Please enter through the Locust Street entrance. When you enter, take the stairs on the right to the second floor. The rooms are right at the top of the stairs.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Fill out the digital audition form HERE prior to your arrival to save time at auditions. Those auditioning should be prepared to list all conflicts or potential conflicts that overlap with a production’s rehearsal and performance schedule.
- Prepare a 1-minute cut (approximately 32 bars) of a musical theater song in the style of the show holiday carol.
- Actors may be asked to read from a selection of short sides.
Alternate Audition and Video Submissions:
Actors unable to attend auditions may submit an audition video to casting@thegrandoperahouse.com. Video submissions should contain 32 bars of a musical theater song in the style of the show or holiday carol showcasing range. Video submissions must be received no later than 6pm Monday, October 5.

We ask that you please also hold the afternoons on November 28 and December 5 open in the event that we need to add a 2pm performance.
Full company rehearsals will begin tentatively October 19
Dress/Technical and Brush-up Rehearsals are November 22 – 25 and December 2 – There will be no rehearsal on Thanksgiving.
Availability for dress/technical rehearsals and all performances is mandatory
Detailed Rehearsal schedules will be made available upon the completion of casting.
CASTING INFORMATION:
The creative team seeks a diverse company of youth and adult actors, ages 8-above. Actors of all ethnicities will be equally considered for all roles and actors of color are encouraged to audition. All roles are open.
Sam the Snowman (baritone, male-identified, any ethnicity) – The narrator and storyteller who guides the audience through Rudolph’s adventure. Warm, humorous and engaging, Sam connects the various parts of the story.
Santa Claus (baritone, male-identified, any ethnicity) – The beloved, warm-hearted leader of the North Pole. Santa is initially caught up in the traditions and expectations of Christmas but ultimately recognizes Rudolph’s unique value.
Mrs. Claus (mezzo-soprano, female-identified, any ethnicity) – Santa’s spirited and caring wife. She often provides a practical perspective and encourages Santa to see beyond the North Pole’s traditions.
Donner (baritone, male-identified, any ethnicity) – Rudolph’s father. Proud and protective, Donner initially struggles to accept Rudolph’s difference and worries about how it will affect his son.
Mrs. Donnor (mezzo-soprano, female-identified, any ethnicity) – Rudolph’s mother. Loving and supportive, she is more accepting of Rudolph and provides a strong parental presence.
Rudolph (tenor, male-identified, any ethnicity) – A young reindeer born with a glowing red nose. Sensitive and determined, Rudolph struggles to fit in before discovering that the very thing that makes him different can become his greatest strength.
Hermey (tenor, male-identified, any ethnicity) – An elf who doesn’t want to make toys. Dreaming of becoming a dentist instead, Hermey is an independent, lovable misfit who becomes Rudolph’s closest friend.
Boss Elf (baritone or mezzo-soprano, male or female-identified, any ethnicity) – A leader among Santa’s elves who helps oversee toy production and represents the traditional expectations placed on the elves.
Fireball (tenor or mezzo-soprano, male-identified, any ethnicity) – A confident young buck and Rudolph’s first friend at the Reindeer Games.
Coach Comet (male-identified, any ethnicity) – The reindeer coach responsible for training the young reindeer to fly. He is traditional and competitive, particularly when Rudolph’s nose disrupts the expected order.
Clarice (mezzo-soprano, female-identified, any ethnicity) – A kind and compassionate young doe who likes Rudolph for who he is. She offers encouragement and friendship when Rudolph feels like an outsider.
Yukon Cornelius (baritone, male-identified, any ethnicity) – A larger-than-life prospector searching for silver and gold. Adventurous, eccentric and endlessly optimistic, Yukon becomes an ally to Rudolph and Hermey.
Bumble (any ethnicity) – The imposing creature who lives on the island and frightens the other characters.
King Moonracer (baritone, male-identified, any ethnicity) – The ruler of the Island of Misfit Toys. Wise and dignified, he welcomes Rudolph and his friends and explains the plight of the unwanted toys.
