Thank you for your interest in volunteering at The Grand. There are numerous ways to get involved and share your talents!
Our largest volunteer group are those individuals that work front of house either in the concession stand and/or as an usher. These volunteers handle everything from popping the popcorn, scanning tickets, and/or assist patrons to their seats. Front of house volunteers get the benefit of seeing productions at no cost. To sign up, click HERE and select the production that you’re interested in volunteering for. You may also call the box office at 563.588.1305 or email volunteer@thegrandoperahouse.com.
Working under the supervision of Colin Muenster, our Technical Director, many volunteers assist in the construction of the set, painting, props, and as backstage crew for productions. Stage crew positions include spotlights, sound board operator, light board operator, and deck crew. Some of these jobs require prior experience, but a willingness to learn and take direction is the most important part of these volunteer duties.
The Grand has thousands of costumes, but many more are created for individual shows. If you like to sew or design clothing, consider helping out with costumes. Even if you don’t know how to sew, there are lots of things you can help with and we are very willing to teach someone looking to learn. Or you can work backstage on the costume and/or hair/makeup run crew to assist with the various elements of a given production!
Donations of clothing and items are always welcome, but please call before you bring items to The Grand.
