Job Summary:
The Theatre Box Office Assistant is responsible for providing excellent customer service to patrons, handling ticket sales, and managing various administrative tasks within the box office. This role requires a friendly demeanor, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage transactions efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
Customer Service:
- Greet patrons and provide information about upcoming performances, ticket availability, and seating options.
- Address and resolve customer inquiries and concerns in a professional manner.
- Process ticket orders both in-person and over the phone, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
Ticket Sales and Management:
- Sell and issue tickets using the theatre’s box office software.
- Handle cash, credit, and debit transactions, and ensure accurate record-keeping.
- Manage ticket exchanges, refunds, and cancellations according to theatre policies.
Event Support:
- Assist with the setup and management of ticketing for special events and performances.
- Prepare and distribute will-call tickets and manage box office setups for events.
- Assist with setting up the lobby and concessions area before shows and resetting lobby once the show has begun; this includes restocking concessions and some light cleaning during performances.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency with computer systems and point-of-sale software.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle cash and process transactions accurately.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Performances are usually Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 2pm.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 60 pounds.
- Good vision and manual dexterity for handling tickets and operating equipment.
Work Environment:
- Fast-paced environment with occasional high-stress situations, especially during peak times and events.
- Interaction with a diverse audience, including patrons of all ages.

Production Team Members
The Grand is looking for individuals interested in creating theater to become part of The Grand family and serve as directors, designers and technicians. The bulk of our assistance comes from a dedicated team of volunteers who do everything from acting to building sets and costumes, and working backstage during productions. These teams of volunteers are led by production team members who take on more responsibility and as such we offer these key positions a stipend. We are currently looking for more people to fill these positions of responsibility. Each of these positions requires a commitment of time and a dedication to the production.

Internships
The Grand offers a limited number of paid summer technical theater internships for those seeking their place in the world of theater, ages 18-24. Interns work closely with our Technical Director each day, and spend time with props, costumes, box office, and office staff on an as needed basis.
Internships are a 12 week commitment and begin in late May.
Applications are usually available in early February and are due by the end of March.

About the Grand Opera House
The Grand Opera House, celebrating over 50 seasons, is Dubuque’s largest community theater. Located in the heart of downtown Dubuque, the Grand is dedicated to preserving and enhancing the Grand Opera House as a venue for community theater performance, dance, music, and film, to contribute to the economy and inspire the Tri-State Area through support of the arts. The Grand Opera House annually produces a season of 8 community productions, as well as additional special events. Our season consists of plays and musicals, as well as ballets produced by the Dubuque City Youth Ballet. All of our productions feature local volunteer talent both on and offstage.
The Grand Opera House is a 501(c)(3) non-profit cultural organization that resides in a 134-year-old “national treasure” opera house that is on the National Register of Historic Places.
