135 Live!

The Grand’s Signature Concert Series

Presented by The Grand Opera House and Premier Bank, 135 Live! is a concert series featuring live music on the historic stage of the Grand Opera House. The concert is presented to a small live audience as well as streamed live.

135 Live! was conceived during 2020, the year that dealt many difficult blows to the whole of the entertainment industry, as a fundraiser for the Grand Opera House and a way to showcase the incredible local talent in the Dubuque area.

As part of The Grand’s mission it is our goal to be a venue for the community, providing a space for theater, music, and dance, as well as inspiring our community through support of the arts. By providing a place to showcase local, regional, and national musicians during the pandemic and beyond we are making good on that promise to the Dubuque community.

Featuring Derty Rice!

Friday, March 12th 7:30pm

A Zydeco Party Band

Derty Rice is a piquant concoction, a blend of flavors sure to spice up any gathering and turn an event into a party.  A six-piece band with a rock-solid rhythm section and hot horns, Derty Rice specializes in the cajun-inspired music of zydeco but also performs blues, rock, Latin, reggae, ska, hillbilly, gypsy, and even a little polka.  The band might play a pop tune you know but reconfigured in a completely different style.  It’s all about getting people up to dance.  A Derty Rice show is an interactive experience, recruiting audience members to play the rub-board (washboard) or tambourine on stage with the band.  It’s all about having fun and making an event into a celebration.

Derty Rice collects the talents of former members of popular Tri-State area zydeco band We’re Late & Smell Like Beer including drummer Jimmy Berg, trumpet player Rob Martin, and Jeff Weydert (from whence the “Derty” spelling comes) on acoustic guitar and trombone, along with Leo Roldan on keyboards, Bob Ressler on electric guitar, and Mike Ironside on bass.  All six members sing, expanding the range of material the band can cover.  Derty Rice has entertained a variety of audiences, from bars to barbecue joints, wedding parties to festival stages.

Featuring Piano Man: A Tribute to the Music of Billy Joel

Friday, March 26th 7:30pm

Daniel Anderson performs Billy’s most memorable classic hits including Piano Man, Big Shot, It’s Still Rock & Rock, Pressure, For The Longest Time and many more.
